Conflict Escalates: Gaza’s ‘AsShohada’ Devastated on Day 268

Conflict Escalates: Gaza’s ‘AsShohada’ Square Devastated on Day 268 of War in Gaza

The 268th day

On the 268th day of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, the commander of the 12th Brigade of the occupying army admitted that the task of eliminating Hamas was not easy and that it would take at least two years to dismantle it in Rafah.

On the ability of resistance to launch rockets and threaten settlements, he said that those who believed that sirens would stop over the coming year would sow ashes in their eyes.

Politically, Israeli media said that Washington was trying to bridge the gaps between Hamas and Israel in order to revive the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and reach a prisoner exchange.

On Saturday evening, Israeli media published a video clip of soldiers from the 46th Battalion in the Israeli army bombing Martyrs’ Square in the center of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The media indicated that the bombing of Martyrs’ Square (the main square of the city of Rafah) was carried out by reserve soldiers belonging to Company “A” of the 46th Battalion.

The Israeli army continues its war on the Gaza Strip for the 267th day in a row with dozens of air strikes and continuous artillery shelling, amid a catastrophic humanitarian situation as a result of the siege and the displacement of more than 95% of the population.

On Friday, the Israeli army expanded its incursion northwest of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, amid gunfire and artillery shelling in the Al-Mawasi area, close to the incursion area.

The vehicles advanced in the vicinity of the “Al-Shakoush” area and south of the “Regional Park” northwest of the city, which led to the displacement of thousands of citizens from their tents in the Al-Mawasi area in Rafah to the city of Khan Yunis.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli military vehicles bombed the Al-Mawasi area northwest of the city of Rafah over the past few hours, resulting in deaths and injuries among the displaced people in the area.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said in a statement on Saturday, “The occupation army committed 3 massacres in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 40 martyrs and 224 injured during the past 24 hours, bringing the toll of the ongoing Israeli war since October 7, 2023 to 37,834 martyrs and 86,858 injured.”

United Nations agencies: More than a million people in Gaza are threatened with famine if fighting continues.

United Nations agencies today warned "Wednesday" that more than a million citizens in the Gaza Strip might face the harshest levels of famine by the middle of next month if the conflict continued.

In a joint report, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) pointed out that the hunger crisis in Gaza was exacerbated by severe restrictions on humanitarian access and the breakdown of the local food system as a result of the war, as transmitted by France 24 in its English publication.

According to the report, the situation in the north of the besieged and isolated sector has been harsh for months as a result of Israeli forces, indicating that the volume of humanitarian assistance has been affected by Israeli army operations in Rafah and its control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.

It should be noted that any region is classified as suffering from famine when 20 percent of families suffer from severe food shortages, at least 30 percent of children suffer from severe malnutrition or humiliation, and two or four adults die every day from hunger and its complications.
