62,055 supporters packed the stadium for the late 23:00 (Egypt time) kick-off on Sunday 25 October 2026, with Juan Martínez Munuera in charge. Barcelona came out looking to control the game, and the first few fouls showed how competitive the night would be. Bernardo Silva won an early free kick for Madrid at 3' after Anthony Gordon’s foul.
Arda Güler had the first sight of goal at 5', a right-footed effort from the right of the box that went just over. Barcelona answered with Gordon, who shot at Andriy Lunin at 7' (saved) and again at 15' from outside the box (saved into the top right corner). Both chances came from João Cancelo’s passing, which gave Barcelona an early outlet down the flank.
Between the 22nd and 34th minutes Barcelona had five shots, including two from Raphinha at 22' and 24' that went high and wide, and a Fermín López effort at 23' that was blocked. Madrid’s Güler had a blocked effort at 26', and Kylian Mbappé sent a right-footed shot too high at 33' from Güler’s cross. Gordon forced another save from Lunin at 34'.
Xavi Espart went down at 29', play stopped, and he was replaced by Alejandro Balde at 30'. It forced Barcelona to adjust their back line in a game where the margins were small.
Against the run of play, Kylian Mbappé finished from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner. Barcelona had created more attempts, but Madrid took their chance at the moment it mattered. It was the first of Mbappé’s two goals.
Rodri tested Lunin with a long shot, Yan Diomande missed just wide on a fast break after a Güler pass, and the first half closed with Madrid ahead despite having far fewer attempts.
Aurélien Tchouaméni was booked at 46' for a foul. Barcelona kept pressing, with Rodri, Pedri and Yamal all involved, and at 61' Pedri delivered from a corner and Raphinha finished left-footed into the bottom left corner. Camp Nou had its equaliser (1-1).
Federico Valverde went off injured at 62' and Denzel Dumfries replaced him, and Güler forced two saves from Joan García (63', 71'). Gerard Martín headed at Lunin at 65', Frenkie de Jong replaced Fermín at 74', and Yamal had four efforts between 74' and 83'. Camavinga came on for Bernardo Silva at 80', and Dean Huijsen needed treatment at 81'.
Gordon was booked at 84' and then replaced by Karim Adeyemi, while Raphinha made way for Gabriel Jesus at 86'. Barcelona were throwing attackers on, which left space behind them.
Madrid broke fast, and Eduardo Camavinga provided the assist. Mbappé finished from the centre of the box into the centre of the goal, assisted by Camavinga. It was his second goal of the match and, as it turned out, the winner.
Five minutes were added. Mbappé and Huijsen were booked for Madrid and Adeyemi and Balde for Barcelona. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Carlos Espí came on for Madrid as the clock ran down, and Bellingham was caught offside at the very end. The whistle confirmed a Madrid win.
🧠 What the Goals Tell Us
Goal 1 (41'): Madrid had far fewer attempts, but Mbappé’s finish from the centre of the box went into the bottom left corner and Madrid led at the break.
Goal 2 (61'): Barcelona’s pressure paid off from a corner. Pedri delivered, and Raphinha’s left-footed finish from the right side of the box went into the bottom left corner.
Goal 3 (87'): The decisive moment was a fast break. Camavinga, who had come on at 80', set up Mbappé, who finished from the centre of the box into the centre of the goal.

🔍 Reading the Numbers
The match feed shows a clear contrast. Barcelona had 18 attempts to Madrid’s 10, led by Raphinha with six and Lamine Yamal with five. Madrid’s Arda Güler also took five, and Mbappé had three attempts, two of which were goals. Corners were level at six each, and so were offsides (three each) and yellow cards (three each).
Madrid were more efficient. They scored with two of their five on-target attempts, while Barcelona scored with one of their six. Barcelona also lost more of their attempts to blocks, with six of their 18 shots blocked. Late in the game the intensity grew, with Madrid winning free kicks in their own half and breaking quickly, which is how the winner came.
🔄 Substitutions and Cards

The first LaLiga meeting was on 17 February 1929 at Les Corts, on the second matchday of the league’s first season. Real Madrid won 2-1 with a brace from Morera, and Parera scored for Barcelona. In the return game Barcelona won 0-1 at Chamartín with a goal from Sastre, on their way to the title.
The clubs had met even earlier in the Copa del Rey. The first meeting was on 13 May 1902 in the semi-finals of the Copa de la Coronación, a tournament the RFEF does not recognise, and Barcelona won 3-1. In 1916 they met in the Copa del Rey semi-finals: Barcelona won 2-1 and Madrid won the return 4-1, so the tie stood at 6-6 after extra time. A fourth match was needed, and Madrid won it 4-2 after extra time.
